Career Interests
Investigative, the analyst.
You want to work out how something actually works.
Your strongest pull is toward problems with an answer nobody has found yet. The appeal is the working out, and a problem that turns out to be simple is a disappointment rather than a relief.
This is the interest area most likely to end up in the wrong job for the right reasons: analytical roles are plentiful and many of them involve no real investigation at all.
Strengths
What this style is good at
Investigative interests bring a tolerance for not knowing yet, which most people lack.
Challenges
Where it costs you
The pattern is depth pursued past the point of usefulness.
- You can sit with an unresolved problem long enough to actually solve it
- You check things other people assume
- You are hard to convince with a confident tone alone
- You are comfortable being the only person who thinks the answer is wrong
- Good enough is a genuinely uncomfortable standard
- You may keep investigating after the decision has already been made
- Explaining the conclusion can interest you far less than reaching it
- Work that is analytical in name but routine in practice will bore you quickly
At work
How this shows up in a working relationship.
The distinction that matters is between analysis and genuine investigation.
- Look for: questions that are open, where the method is yours to choose
- Avoid: roles where the analysis is a fixed procedure run on new data each month
- Fields that tend to fit: research, data science, medicine, engineering, economics, law
- Investigative plus Artistic is research design; Investigative plus Conventional is analysis within a defined system, which is a very different job
Growth
What actually helps.
The leverage here is almost entirely in communication and in stopping.
- 01
Decide what would change your mind, first
Naming it before you start is the difference between investigating and elaborating.
- 02
Treat the explanation as part of the work
A correct conclusion nobody acts on has the same effect as a wrong one.
- 03
Set the stopping rule in advance
Depth is your strength and also the thing most likely to make you late.

The test takes 5 minutes and gives you both scores, not just a label.
