Once, and again when your life changes
Your Relationships
Your Relationships is about the people in your life now rather than the ones who raised you: a partner, children, the close friends you would call at 2 AM, and whether you get enough time with the people who matter most.
What it asks
Your partner, close friends and children: the people you built a life with.
- Whether you are with a partner, and whether you have children
- How many close friends you have, the kind you would call at 2 AM, and where they came from
- Who matters most to you right now, and whether you get enough time with them
- Anyone Crystal should know by name, if you want to say
The people a life is built around
Long-running studies of adult life keep returning to the same finding: close relationships matter more to how a life goes than almost anything else. Not how many, and not how impressive, but whether there are a few people you can count on.
Most planning leaves them out. Goals get written about work, money and health, and the people a life is built around are assumed rather than asked about, until the question of whether you see them enough has an uncomfortable answer.
Asking plainly, every so often, is the fix. It takes three minutes, and it is the kind of question that changes what a week looks like.
