Types 1 and 2 together account for just under 40% of results, which is a heavier concentration at the top than the framework’s own literature tends to assume.
Type 9 at 2.3% is the figure most likely to be a measurement artefact rather than a finding. A type defined partly by deferring and not asserting is exactly the type a self-report questionnaire would under-detect, and we would treat this number as a floor rather than an estimate.
Method
- Every completed Enneagram assessment that produced a primary type, counted once per completion.
- Wing is recorded separately and is not counted here.
- Staff, demo and test accounts are excluded.
What this cannot tell you
- Self-selected sample. These are people who chose to take an Enneagram assessment, not a population.
- The Enneagram is a motivational framework and self-report struggles with motivation in a way it does not with behaviour. People report what they believe drives them.
- Type 9 in particular is thought to be under-detected by self-report questionnaires, because the type is characterised partly by not asserting a position. The 2.3% here should be read with that in mind rather than taken at face value.
- This is Crystal’s implementation. Other Enneagram instruments would produce different shares.
